Interview With Last Comic Standing’s Judge, Natasha Leggero
Natasha Leggero. Name ring a bell? If not you may be thinking she’s probably a hot Russian spy — perhaps one of the several spys that were busted recently. While she’s definitely not a spy (as far as I know – ha), I can definitively say that the “hot” part is true. Well, who is Natasha Leggero? Natasha is an actress and a comedian, and is currently a judge on this season of NBC’s Last Comic Standing along side Andy Kindler and Greg Giraldo.
Before Natasha became a judge on Last Comic Standing she did and continues to do stand up and is currently doing voicework for Comedy Central’s Ugly Americans. She has made several appreances in shows, including Reno 911, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (one of the strippers), and was in last year’s He’s Just Not That into You. She is also a regular panelist on ‘Chelsea Lately’ and will be going on tour shortly!
We recently had the opportunity to chat with Natasha and talk about some of the things she’s currently working on. It went like this:
Were you the class clown in school?
I was definitely the loudest and most obnoxious. I was very wild, would sneak out of the house, and hang out with older people.
What did you do before comedy?
I went to an acting conservatory in New York and got my B.A. in theatre criticism.
What are your comedic influences?
Biggest influences are people having babies in toilets and clipping their nails at the register.
What advice would you give someone interested in getting into stand-up?
Try to have a bad childhood.
Ever get boo’ed off stage?
Everyone has to deal with hecklers at some stage or another. I once had a man stand up, look at his watch, and tell me to “wrap it up”.
Men’s Weekly is following you on Twitter and noticed that you are breast feeding a baby. What’s up with that?
That’s my friend’s baby. We just had a pacifier in her mouth.
How has it been to be a judge on Last Comic Standing?
I’m having a great time. I love working with Andy Kindler and Greg Giraldo. Its almost over now, down to the final few, with live finals are on August 9th on NBC.
What is your most memorable moment on the show?
When we went to NY for auditions and saw a full three days worth of crazy people. I saw three penises, naked jugglers, and extreme racists.
I hear you were on Playboy Radio last Friday trying to make a “Bunny Funny”. What was that like?
It was a huge challenge. I had 20 minutes to try and write a routine for a playboy model to perform live on air. We ended up chatting and taking a lot of what she said and incorporating it into her jokes. I think the joke about ‘Having sex whilst driving is actually pretty dangerous, because it makes it hard to concentrate on your texting!’ went down well.
What are you doing when you aren’t making people laugh?
I hang out with my dog (Natasha is a huge dog person and even features her real dog in a recent Comedy Central sketch ‘Patriot Dog: Meet Mayor Cutie’), take a few days off, and interact with people. Interacting with people is important because that is the source of inspiration for the kind of comedy I do — the “reacting to society” kind.
Are you seeing anyone?
Yes, he’s a comedian.
What’s next?
I’m currently touring and doing voiceowrk for Comedy Central’s Ugly Americans. Check out my site for my tour dates, clips and more!
