Edge Of Darkness Movie Review
After seeing the previews for this movie I right away thought it was a knock off of Taken with Liam Neeson. If you don’t remember, Taken is an action thriller with the Plot surrounding the kidnapping of Liam’s daughter while in France. In short, he rescues her by being the epitome of all that is badass. He was a former CIA agent and knows how to track people down, extract information, kill people and do what he needs to do. But I digress; this is supposed to be a review of Edge of Darkness. Sorry.
I realized that this movie differed considerably from Taken at the moment that Mel’s daughter got shot in a drive by shooting. So he wasn’t going to be doing any saving, but he was certainly gonna get his revenge! So I can see that this movie may have been inspired by Taken, but isn’t really anything like it in terms of the plot.
Mel, Thomas Craven in the movie, thought that he was the reason for his daughter’s death for his involvement in the police force as a Boston detective. But he knew damn well that he didn’t have any enemies and he slowly realized that his daughter, Emma Craven, was the target of the drive by, not him. What he discovered is that his daughter was involved in speaking out against the weapons company she worked for that developed nuclear grade armaments. The company risked losing everything if employees blew the whistle, so they kept a close eye on all members of the company and any employees that made an attempt to speak out got killed.
Once Tommy Craven realized that the people he was dealing with were playing hard-ball, he responded, and he got his revenge! The acting was amazing on his part and was definitely Mel at his best, or at least much better than the Lethal Weapon series that absolutely bored me to death. So if Mel dissapointed you with some of his previous movies, give him another shot with Edge of Darkness. It’s an interesting plot that kept my interest throughout the movie that had action, suspense and some drama. It had most cinematic elements that I want to see in a movie. Overall I rate Edge of darkness a 7.5/10.
